I first entered the online business world as a Web Developer. In essence, I built websites, but there’s a bit more to it than that. Yes, you can construct a website from static HTML, CSS and JS files. But personally, I found that process to be cumbersome and unnecessarily time consuming. This wasn’t ideal for either myself or my clients. My opinion is, and remains – why should I waste my time trying to recreate something awesome, that someone else has already done? Every time a car is manufactured, the wheel doesn’t get redesigned. Every car manufacturer uses it, because it already works perfectly. If I tell you that WordPress is used to power over 28% of the sites in the ENTIRE world wide web, you’re probably thinking “damn, it must be good!”.
But what is WordPress? WordPress is a content management system (CMS). In my humble opinion, it’s the best one out there. You can forget about SquareSpace and Wix, they don’t compare to the awesomeness that is WordPress. WordPress began it’s life as a blogging platform. Today, millions of people still use it for that purpose, but over time, WordPress has evolved. Masterminds have been collaborating since 2003 in an effort to keep making WordPress more and more awesome, and they’ve succeeded. Today, not only can you use this CMS to create an amazing blog, it can aid you in creating sites for business, real estate, accommodation, magazines and even ecommerce sites. The possibilities are endless and there really is no excuse NOT to use WordPress when creating a website.
Like I said, you can forget about the likes of Wix and SquareSpace because they don’t come close to the customization capabilities of WordPress. I am certainly biased in favor of WordPress. As a developer, WordPress allowed me to customize the crap out of sites, to produce a clients dream site. But WordPress isn’t only customizable to those who know code. You might be the kind of person who can’t tell your parenteses from you semicolons, but have no fear! You too, can customize WordPress! With a vast array of premium themes and plugins you can do anything you could possibly dream up! Mobile responsive image sliders, contact forms and shopping baskets can all be created without having to boggle your brain over PHP functions!
All of this is just a small insight into the power of WordPress. I’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg. I could go on and on about how great WordPress is as a content management system but here’s the bottom line. Create your site with WordPress from the get-go and you’ll save yourself the time and money of having to migrate your site over once you realise the mistake you made. That’s the great thing about WordPress. It can do as little as you want to when you start out. As you and your business grow, you can start adding the bells and whistles to your site. The possibilities are endless, when you choose WordPress.
